Helping Cancer Patients Keep the Dream of Future Family Alive
At Sher Fertility Institute, we believe that everyone has the right to have a family. Even if you are diagnosed with cancer, this right should not be compromised.
Most cancer treatment including radiation and chemotherapy has a negative impact on future fertility. In many cases these treatments render the patient infertile.
In an effort to help create awareness and provide help to those who have an urgent need for fertility preservation due to pending cancer treatment, Sher Fertility Institute is launching a new program called Fertility Rescue, offering a $10,000 egg freezing cycle at no cost to the patient.
We understand that when a young woman is diagnosed with cancer, the rush to treatment is immediate. The patient is thrust into the world of cancer, and the primary hope is recovery. Sometimes the patient is aware her fertility could be impacted, but is so overwhelmed and exhausted that she puts the “fertility issue” aside.
The goal of Fertility Rescue is to make preserving a woman’s fertility as simple as possible during a time of physical, emotional and financial stress. Through this program we also hope to raise awareness among oncologists and the cancer community about the need to address fertility preservation with patients prior to cancer treatment.
In the past several years, egg freezing technology has advanced to the point where it is truly a viable option for preserving fertility.
Of the estimated 1.5 million men and women who were diagnosed as having cancer in 2010, approximately 10% are younger than 45 years.
The two leading cancer institutes in the world, National Cancer Institute and Mayo Clinic, both came out with papers in January 2011 urging oncologists to encourage fertility preservation
If you or someone you know is facing cancer treatment that could threaten their fertility, please contact your nearest Sher Fertility Institute to set up a Fertility Rescue consultation with a Sher physician. He/She will review your case and set up an expedited timeline and action plan for egg freezing.
We have partnered with a number of providers that have generously offered their products and services at no cost in many of our office locations. These include fertility medications and anesthesia. There may be nominal costs for certain third party providers in some office locations, though we are working to secure all the necessary ancillary services at no cost to patients.
The following partners have generously committed their time and resources to the Fertility Rescue program:
Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada
Andrew Freeman, MD – Anesthesiologist – Dallas, TX
Scott Porter, MD – Anesthesiologist – Dallas, TX
Katherine Blakeley, MD – Anesthesiologist – Dallas, TX

At Sher Fertility Institute, we believe that fertility preservation should be available to all who need it. Together we can keep the hope of future family alive.
