Infertility seems to be increasing in Canada

Lorie A. Parch of conceive online, writes that According to a new study from the journal Human Reproduction, there’s been a significant uptick in the number of Canadians experiencing infertility. The study noted that over the past decade many more Canadian couples are seeking out assisted reproductive technologies (ART), like in vitro fertilization (IVF), but until this study was conducted no one had looked at how common infertility is in Canada in recent years.

In crunching 2009-2010 data about married and common-law couples ages 18 to 44, the researchers found that the estimated prevalence of infertility ranged from 11.5% to 15.7% — and even the lower estimate was an increase in infertile couples compared to earlier data. Not surprisingly, the increase was tied to the age of the female partner.
